tunnel with tracks * One of the many tunnels we wandered down while on the tour of this iron mine.  In the late 1800s this mine was the major industry of the area. * 314 x 432 * (42KB)
ceiling of tunnel * The iron bars supporting the ceiling of the tunnel.  They are dripping with the lime seeping through the tunnels, creating a calcite coating which preserves them without rusting.  So no worry that the ceiling will collapse on our heads! * 432 x 323 * (60KB)

ore * A thick layer of ore visible in this cavern.  When they tried to open this up, several miscalculations ended up with the whole area collapsing.  However, the horizontal deposit of ore is clearly visible near the top of the photo (dark reddish area). * 432 x 323 * (61KB)
