Occupancy: 1,950 Cabo San Lucas is located at the southern tip of the Baja peninsula on the west coast of Mexico. This area has long been known as host to some of the finest fishing in the world. Some suspect that this is due to the fertile Sea of Cortez on the east and the cold Pacific on the west. The water just south of Cabo San Lucas is where the two meet and more than 800 species of fish have been identified. Sport fishermen come from all over to catch marlin, bill fish and sailfish.
We took a ride in one of the life boats which deposited us on the dock of the town and we did a bit of a walk to explore the area. The town is small, but we didn’t have much time to visit more anyway. At left is a photo of the harbor from the Finesterra hotel which sets above the town.
The ship sailed late in the afternoon, and then returned to the port to pick up some passengers who did not manage to make it back to the ship before it sailed. We suspect that the Captain was not amused by this.
On our return voyage, we did not go ashore, but were able to catch a photo of the popular arch near Lover’s Beach, a secluded, beautiful beach accessible by water taxi. These massive rocks and the arch were probably the most often photographed sight by the many guests aboard the Infinity while were anchored there. In the surrounding waters there are plentiful dolphins and seals playing, as well as a healthy population of pelicans.
