Northern Ireland? Northern Ireland? What do you mean, Northern Ireland. Ireland is the Republic of Ireland. Well, yes and no. The northeastern corned of the islandof Ireland is par of the UK and is is known as Northern Ireland and also referred to as Ulster and “the north” with the latter two being references to the historical province of Ulster that was ceded to Britain following the partition of Ireland in 1921. There is entirely too much history involved with this for us to try to address it in the wee bit of space we have available. Get out the history books and read. It will be well worth it. We visited Northern Ireland on several occasions when we were living and working in Dublin, Ireland. It is hard for us to draw lines based on geography given what we saw. Both the Republic and Ulster are stunningly beautiful, each with their own uniqueness. We did not get to see everything we wanted to while we lived there and definitely will be back. |
