While in Norwich area for a motorcycle rally, we took the opportunity to visit the town of Norwich and learn a bit of its history. There still exist many fine old buildings, including this one which was originally built in the 1500s. The half-timbered architecture (right) was typical for the time and it still has a thatch roof. It is one of the oldest surviving homes from that era.
A very unique building wall was found several blocks away. This wall is almost a block long and is made entirely of flint! Many buildings in the area have flint used decoratively in their facades, but this was the only one of its kind. Each flint block (left) is about 3 inches square. They are then mortared onto the wall. Can you imagine how long it took to cut all those small blocks of flint? With hand tools alone?
One day we took a bit of a walk with about a dozen people from the rally, walking along lanes and local farm roads. In the middle of what seemed to be nowhere, we came upon this pub where we had lunch. It was a beautiful day to be out and about, and it was a fantastic lunch.
