Naeroyfjord

In Kaupanger we caught the last ferry of the day to Gudvangen. As it turned out, there weren’t many of us (right). Besides ourselves, there was an Italian couple on a BMW motordycle, a Norwegian couple with a friend from Poland, another Norwegian couple, and 7 Italians traveling together in the van. It made for a nice, quiet journey.

As we left Kaupanger, the sun was still bright and hot and we saw many small communities along the wide fjord (above left).

Soon the sun began to hide behind the mountains and gave us time for peaceful reflection (above left). As we got further into the fjord, there was barely a breeze and the water became almost like a mirror, above right.

Access to these areas seems difficult, but we did see a few roads providing access to the hardly families who choose to live in this remote but beautiful region.

All on board found the views to be stunning and the cameras kept clicking the entire journey, even as twilight came (above) and sunset (below left).

claudio and elisa bartoloni

As we disembarked at 9 pm, we followed Elisa and Claudio Bartoloni (above right) to the motel right at the ferry landing as it seemed they had planned this right. They had traveled to the Nord Cap from their home near Rome for their holiday on their R1100 BMW and Claudio had planned his stops well.

After we had arrived in Bergen the following day, we were out exploring the town and who should we encounter at the tourist information center? Elisa and Caludio. We ppointed them in the direction of our hotel where they found a room available.
